Just walking my deer to breakfast

I woke up at 5am this morning in Banff. Yes, 5am and I could no longer sleep. In my defense it's 7am in Ottawa, which is sleeping in!

So after watching some early morning TV and doing my hotel exercise routine I waited until the first store opened on the strip to take a walk (Starbucks opens at 6:30am probably taping the jet lag market, definitely not the night lifers, of which there are many here).

During my walk, I stopped many times, a bit afraid of the THREE DEER just hanging out and walking down the street! This is obviously not weird since many "banffians" walked past them like they were dogs or pigeons. By the end I was getting annoyed of avoiding them so I just marched right by the biggest one only 3 feet away from me.

Deer stumbling home from the bar.

Deer having a picnic in the park.

After such an interesting walk I had my tasty breakfast and mountain watched from my window seat at Starbucks. And then it started snowing.

Egg and spinach breakfast wrap with Organic Chocolate Milk and water (I think I'm the only person who goes to a coffee shop at 6:30am and does not order coffee!).

At least I had a great day yesterday! My drive from Calgary to Banff was gorgeous. The clouds were low, but the mountains still put on a great show.

I just had to snap this shot of the "worlds best ice cream" (according to who, it didn't say) with pretty mountains in the background.

Brownie Explosion Ice Cream with Chocolate Peanut Cone.

More adventures in Banff to come!

  1. I would definitely get freaked out by the deer in such close proximity! But that's kind of awesome too. :)

    P.S. That ice-cream looks heavenlyyy.

  2. That makes me think of Elf walking into the coffee shop and congratulating them on making the world's best coffee according to their window sign. :)

I can't believe there is just deer walking around town. That's WEIRD. And I'd be a little scared too.

Do you not drink coffee? Coffee makes me happy. :)

  4. Yep, the deer thing in Banff is normal. In Jasper apparently elk are often wandering around too, although I didn't see any when I was there. I love Alberta!
