food, family and sunshine! (part one - prep work)

What a fabulous long weekend! We couldn't have asked for better weather.

On Thursday after work, Billy and I braved the post Will and Kate traffic in our neighborhood to head to Cobourg for the weekend. Upon our arrival, my mom was already hard at work making desserts and prepping for our BBQ Party the next day. I quickly joined her and made a batch of coconut cupcakes.

After a good night rest we ate a yummy breakfast of croissants, scrambled eggs and baked peach and blueberry oatmeal.

And then the prep work began:

For decorations we used flowers in jars with doilies and twine to make them like this picture I found last week.

Step one: arrange flowers in jars with water. Wipe excess water/moisture from around jar.

Step two: using pretty doilies, twine and scissors wrap the base of the jars.

Instead of name cards I framed some chalkboard paper from the $ store. I loved that you could errase them and reuse them for different courses (e.g. main course then dessert).

My mom has an awesome collection of old jars that we used on our outdoor "bar" (my mom's kitchen island that my dad built them for their last house. It was just in storage and made a great bar!).

Even the boys were put to work!

Outside getting the food tent up.

Inside prepping salads.

Of course there was time for a quick photo shoot before the guests arrived.

The family.

The birthday b0y, my dad, with his present.

The excited hostesses, my lovely mom and I.

Tomorrow, food pictures! I hope everyone had a fabulous long weekend!

Emilie
